2 Unlimited hit through in spring 1991 with their first single, with an intrumental version of "Get Ready For This!" (# 2 on UK charts). In order to increase the popularity of the project, the producers then chose to sign a contract with Ray Slijngaard, who would make sure to add rap to the songs. Ray Slijngaard recommended answering Anita Dels (a singer from Amsterdam) as the female vocalist. A new version of the song "Get Ready For This" was released in September 1991 and became a very big success for the band. The following single, "Twilight Zone", performed even better on the hitlists along with two more successful songs from the album: "Workaholic" and "The Magic Friend". This was followed by the album "No Limit" in 1993, where "No Limit" (the fourth best selling song in 1993) and "Tribal Dance" became the most prominent.
However, the group's high popularity meant that the group's typical music style began to be reproduced. When the song "Real Things" was released in 1994, the group no longer had a unique music style and one that was shared among hundreds of other groups. In April 1996, the group was dissolved in a complicated relationship between Ray and Anita. A relaunch of the group in 1998 under the name 2 Unlimited 2 with the two female singers Romy van Oojen and Marion Van Iwaarden had limited success and both singers left the project at their contract expiry in 1999. The group was restored with the original crew in 2012 to take on a major tour.
