Lychee, you're way over the top with this mix! You capture a very delicate mood here and you can keep it all the way through with a very strict track selection, it's awesome! I love this sound, it's smooth and mellow, but it's jazzy and funky at the same time, there's even a touch of hardcore confidence and tightness with a very soft edge - bit of an oximoron but that's why it's an interesting, great combination (like sweet and sour? ). Not the trivial soothing lounge sound or ambient chillout house that is way more obvious than your music and very much simplistic. Yours is musical sophistication all the way through.
You got be at Track 1, another bit plus to choose such a great Intro. It's one of the signs of a great mix for me when you put effort into figuring out the Intro/Outro and these beautiful vibes slowly build up the atmosphere, it's divine. Very much reminding me of my "Late Nite Vibes One" start but yours has a better effect since it's not vocal (I love the strings - and the bass, percussion, great track!
Track 3 takes it to a bit more underground deep house, but it's just an excursion, you bring it back at Track 4 to a bit of a nu disco sound, still tight and electro, again, quite unique sound, can't really compare. I mentioned nu disco since the bass and some strings reminded me of the 80s electro-disco sound of Evelyn Champagne King and others (plus the track is titled Champagne so there's the association)
Track 5 cools down the mood, it's nice, however I don't like the "piano" solo here with the very bad synthesizer sample that sounds a bit like a wanna-be acoustic guitar (it's jut me about some solos in Kevin Yost tracks all together, see my rant about this at Dimsa's Kevin Yost mix...)
The Blue Six track is quite soulful and atmospheric, not the usual Blue Six, is this from a new album? Have to look it up.
You'll probably understand what I mean about the Kevin Yost solo when you compare it to the piano solo in Track 7, and the do the same comparison with Track 8. The mood is all fine, but the musicanship is very different - Track 8 is real jazz whilst the earlier two are just jazzy lounge/house tracks. In other words (no offense to anyone): Hajime can play the piano on a professional level, whilst the others are just novice amateurs. I was very pleasantly surprised to see Hajime Yoshizawa in your listing, it is a gem, I don't even know this track but will definitely buy it. The one I have is called "Endless Bow" and it will be featured in my upcoming "Journey To The Sun - Trip No. 2" set.
Don't take the above thoughts as a criticism to you, I quite often have the same dilemma, some tracks do have a great mood but one intrument selection is to synthetic to my ears - I will still often use them with a bit of a compomise (I had some in my Richard Earnshaw set as well - "Pressure" - awful strings and synth trumpets used on it, but it still made it...)
Track 9 is fantastic, on one hand it sounds like a soundtrack of a 70s movie, on the other hand it's definitely what I call the "Jazzanova" sound (or 4hero was the other one popping in my mind). Now that was before I realized what your last track was - hmmm, great minds think alike!
I have to stop however at Track 10, the string type solo motive very much reminded me of a song on "Cafe Del Mar Volume 3", I think it's called "The Moon" or something. Great soft and mellow mood with a house groove again. You're transition here to Track 11 is brilliant.
Well, and Track 11 (the song, not me smile amazing selection, a killer one at the end! I don't know where you get this version from, I do know the original of course from Status IV, one of my favourites (talking about 80s Disco). I also know the original Jazzanova remix which has a bit more 2Step feeling to it. This version however is absulutely jaw dropping with it's mellowness. Great ending too.
My personal opinion is that this work made you deserve the title of "Queen Of Mellow"
Very well done, be proud of it - this is world class!
