Gems Z; no mixin' techics exept for the basic one, selecting a track.... Starting the year by finishing this series, again more funk, jazz, soul and this time also two blues tracks. This concludes my 'hero compilation', I hope you've enjoyed it, I loved putting it together. All tracks taken were from vinyl, some compression added.....
Dude, this is tops. Intro track is big fav of mine, lots of covers, how cool is this sound. Typical Motown and Temptations sound at Track 2 - the Old Gold, rare record label, trying to find some of the 12" Gold series myself. Track 4 is just so funky, it is a BOMB! Typical Motown and Temptations sound at Track 2 - the Old Gold, rare record label, trying to find some of the 12" Gold series myself. Track 4 is just so funky, it is a BOMB! I acttually knew this, someone sampled it, maybe just for a DJ tool loop - this original is unbelievable. Beastie Boys should have learned from here and from Track 5 - bit of a Jimmy Smith sound - bit Kool & The Gang. Track 5 bass reminds me of O'Jays "For The Love Of Money" this man is such a tight funk here with the drum and the riffs, unreal!
You're killing me with Track9 - my fav bassline but I did not know that this was AWB originally! I heard many covers - how cool to discover this!
The Quincy track would be a great downtempo or trip-hop track without the vocals - sounds a bit like Marvin Gaye's Make Me Wanna Holler...
Great music, should be mandatory for all DJs to know all these roots. Last track was on Four Brothers Soundtrack AFAIK - at least some of these are coming back in some forms.
