Fred R. also known as Overkill was born in New York City to Chilean parents in the late 70's. He first began listening to Electronic music when he would collect underground mixtapes from the likes of Frankie Bones, Carl Cox, Bad Boy Bill, Richie Hawtin & Sven Vath. At the same time he was also inspired by Hip Hop artist such as Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, Cypress Hill, A Tribe Called Quest & Run DMC. Both music cultures inspired Fred to save money through Middle School to purchase his first pair of 1200's in the beginning of his Freshmen year. During those years Fred had relocated to the DC area in the early 90's, he would purchase vinyl weekly from stores such as 12" Dance Records, Musicnow (later Yoshitoshi) & Tower Records. He was influenced early on by the sounds of Masters At Work (Little Louie Vega & Kenny Dope), Todd Terry, David Morales, Erick Morillo, Armand Van Helden, DJ Sneak & labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Cutting, Nervous, Cajual, Relief & Underground Construction.
