SHENG WHO? Simple minded critics might think Sheng has a musical identity crisis and split personality ? But no it’s just that exact diversity what defines Sheng Who as a DJ. It’s his crazy form of expression
Already as a little kid playing with the 12 band parametric eq on the pickup and sonically exploring everyone record collection Sheng bought his first record aged 8. George Michaels album.
And he was a fanatic radio listener and was killing the dub tape game at school. After sneaking into clubs by 14 and mysteriously ending up in the hottest underground parties Sheng was always intrigued by how Amsterdams and the worlds best would subtlety build tension and manage to make every mix a surprising transition. Every track had iTs purpose and this is where his quest for the perfect mix began.
His soulful roots go back almost two decades since catching the virus in Amsterdam’s underground aged 15. Sheng was truly inspired and taught by the best and has been a true warrior of the underground ever since.
His selections consist basically out of various very particular but captivating stand out tracks in various sub genres related to what used to simply be underground house music.
In essence be tríes to bridge the gap between his beloved deep soulful house with an eclectic touch with his passion for more futuristic hypnotic deep tech , melodico techno and hints of progressive due to early inspirations by guys like Halo Varga, Fred Everything, Kevin Yost, Dixon, Sebastian leger. Sasha and Dutch legend the Funky Bastard Aka Ken Abel to point out a few. But his roots lie more in the US and UK hOuse and garage scene. Seeing Louie Vega and Kenny dope with Elements of life live for 50 bucks on a Sunday in a crammed Paradiso touched his soul, Masters like Joe claussell, Blaze and Franki feliciano were household names in his earlier selections.
But truly inspiring were 2 guys from NYC who converted him from hiphop to electronic music : Matteo & Matos
Once being ridiculed by some industry insiders for mixing deep techy cuts into soulful deep house sets and mashing them up with minimal techno at the peak of Defecteds popularity now it’s at the new sound everyone is producing and at the frontier of a musical evolution of jazz and techno in which all sub genres have their own moment and place. Minimal deep to make space for rich harmonies later , or a transition to a punchier beat maybe something funky, cinematic or a forgotten melodic gem that put the smile on the face of many.
Sheng is a guarantee for a Dj that will bend the will of the crowd and fill them with good vibes no matter what.

After years of harmonic layering of beautiful melodies and vocals he got a bit bored with the same song structure so over time he developed a preference for darker and punchier Techno based deep and techhouse and deep dubs over vocals for creative reasons.
A blunt move for a known DJ but he decided to start fresh under his own real name at the other side of the world. With little support, and even less resources he battled and charmed his way into all the Dj booths in Northern México and has been burning dancefloors all over México and the USA ever since.
Techno Taco Tuesday , Apparitions festival , and headlining 80/100 shows a year in Mexico and the USA has given him a rocksolid reputation on both sides of the border.
