I am a qualified accountant by profession. I have been listening to music all my life and I have a music background.
The way I listen to a song or mix is for the sound of it. My first impression is of the overall sound. The way I listen to mixes is for the songs and the sound. Apart from style, the mood and pace do things to me.
Style is easier to describe then to define. I like to recognize artists and deejays by their styles, so that when I hear an unfamiliar song or mix I can identify it with who did it.
To determine a good sounding DJ, I feel a DJ must have things like the ability to create an awesomely good sound set; has an identifiable sound; spins well; very skill in tracks mixing from one to another; and has a distinctive style to his work.
