Andy Pearson (more commonly known as DJ Andy P) began to delve into the world of DJing almost 20 years ago. In 1995 he purchased his first pair of belt drive turntables and started to teach himself how to beat mix. After becoming familiar with the basics he felt he was confident enough to splash out on buying a set of Technics 1210s, and knew that DJing was something he was growing forever more passionate about, and that it wasn't just a passing phase.
The style of music he concentrated on at the beginning of his career in 1996 was Old Skool house, as this was the type of music that was popular in the clubs that Andy frequented at the time. He would spend all his spare time perfecting his technique in order to gain confidence to start DJing to the public himself. It wasn’t long until he got his chance, when in the same year Andy played at the famous legends night club in Warrington. This opportunity emerged when the manager of the club heard a mix tape of Andy's and contacted him asking him to play a set one night. Andy's set impressed the manager so much that he offered Andy a residency. Over the course of the next 2 years, Andy crafted his skills by playing a variety of smaller venues and private parties in and around his home city of Manchester.
In 1998 Andy visited Kos in Greece for 3 months in order to broaden his DJing horizons. He played in one of the resort’s bars whilst there and quickly progressed to the main club called Status. He returned the following summer and gained a residency in a new club that had opened up called Club Tropicana.
When Andy came back England he decided to change the style of music he played to Trance music, as it was becoming more popular. He also felt that in order to keep fresh, and progressive that he needed to branch out into different styles. Andy found the transition difficult, but knew it was a necessity. It took him some time to adjust from house to trance and build up a substantial record collection. But it was worth the hard work and effort when in the year 2000 Andy entered a DJ competition at the highly acclaimed Gatecrasher nightclub in Sheffield. He managed to get to the final stages and eventually won. The prize for winning meant Andy got to play an hour spot on the radio.
In the same year 2000, Andy and 2 of his other DJ friends started their own night at a local club. The club at the time was called Staxx and they played every Thursday night. They each had a different style to mix the night up, which worked well and it became a popular night spot. Andy decided to leave after 6 months though, as the promoters began to stir the night into a more commercial area. This wasn’t an avenue Andy wished to explore and so moved on.
In 2002 he changed his music style from Trance back to House, because there was a resurgence of the House. This return to House music wasn't such a trial as it was House that that started his passion for DJing in the first place.
In 2003 he joined a DJ agency after sending them 2 mix CDs he’d constructed. This turned into a fruitful endeavour as he picked up a large number of bookings using the agency at various venues throughout the North of England. It was during the next few years that Andy would begin to lay foundations financially in order to pursue his ambition of taking his talent further afield.
At the beginning of 2007 Andy decided it was time to switch from vinyl turntables as the clubs were moving forward with the times and the majority of DJs were using CDs and MP3 formats. He soon got to work developing new mix CDs which gained him bookings in clubs around the Manchester area and then in the summer he scored another residency at a club in Lanzarote.
The following year Andy returned to the U.K. and travelled to Derbyshire where he had secured himself a residency at a club called Level 2. He played there fortnightly playing vocal and funky house.
In the September 2008 he decided it was the right time to put into action the first step of his dream to leave the U.K and head to Thailand in order to DJ. He had already taken steps to get a gig and was booked to play at a major club called club lime in Patong, Phuket.
He played a guest spot there on the 11th of October 2008 and it was a successful night. The events manager called him the next day to ask to have a meeting with him. The manager really liked his style and told him that the type of music Andy played were just what another club named Club lime were looking for. Whilst being a resident at Club lime. This didn’t stop Andy from spreading his style, by playing at other clubs in Phuket as well such as Club Seduction, The Boat Bar and Club Icon. He finished his residency in 2009 and returned to the U.K. and continued where he left of, playing at numerous clubs throughout the North West.
After his first successful trip to Thailand, Andy believed that this was where he felt his DJing had really thrived and so returned to Thailand to start his current residency at Mixx Discotheque. They have two clubs, one in Bangkok and another in Pattaya. Andy plays at Mixx Discotheque Bangkok on Thursdays & Saturdays. He then plays at Mixx Discotheque Pattaya on Wednesdays & Fridays.
In February,2014, after almost 2 and a half years, Andy decided to leave from Mixx Discotheque to pursue other projects. In March,2014, Andy heard there was a new club in Pattaya opening up called 808.After speaking with the owners about working with them as a DJ, he was given the job as one of the new resident DJ’s.
