More than just about anything else, New Year's Day signals the passage of time … it's when we acknowledge the relentless progression of days and hours throughout the year …
Now, of course, Einstein said that “The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once", which sounds like a positive thing … but often when we're contemplating time passing, we're at least a bit wistful about it: it may signal the passing of good times, the disappearance of friends, the loss of opportunities, the inexorable reduction of the total number of hours and days we have still ahead of us. OTOH, it may also signal coming into your own, finding love, having a child, creating art or buying a ticket for the next flight to the moon.
For good or bad, it's fair to say time is the primary element in our lives, it's the inescapable component without which we can build nothing, experience nothing, remember nothing. And it's everything in music as well … in the tempo of the instrumental part, and often in the lyrics … as you'll hear in this New Year's set.
This show was originally concocted for NYE 2010 and by the time I was set up here at mix.dj in March, the moment had passed ... but NYE comes around again, so why not the show? Only a slight tweak was applied, to edit down the Black Eyed Peas track, which everyone is doubtless tired of by now.
Madame Fly is a great way to bring in the New Year! Creative and energetic when it needs to be . The tracks flow perfectly taking you on this musical journey.Highly recommended!
