so glad to read such a serious and qualified feedback to my mix. thank you! About my mix: I use a special setup to perform live (this is a live recording), Traktor Pro for mixing/efx tunes and also as MIDI master, Ableton as MIDI slave and host which opens FM8, Kontakt4 and Stylus RMX instances. All in sync. I mainly focus on enriching the sound through the use of these vst upon the mix, never made a studio mix before. Sure I have to optimize my use of beatmatching in the overall workflow and it's hard to have all under control..Will work this way in the future! Thanks for suggestions! I also listen to your latest mix: simply great, man. I mainly listen to jazz rather than chill-out music. Your playlist is fantastic both for the newbie listener both for the jazz entusiast, a special thumb up for A. Jamal's Dolphin Dance, one of my all time favourite piano player. Let's keep in touch!!
Man, whatta Intro! Jeez! This is a cover of Digital Underground's "Freak's Of The Industry" bassline, a classic hip-hop that I always wanted to have as an instrumental since it would pass as a recent downtempo track. And voila, here's a remake. Have a listen to the original here: http://www.youtube.c...

The speed-up or key change at 2:16 is not cool, what happened there? There is zPane elastique pitch shift in Ableton, so it should not sound like this.
Very nice selection indeed - a bit too mainstream at some points, eg. Les Nuits, High Noon, Homelands, The Child are all my favs but they've been far overplayed on a gazillion lounge compilations and elsewhere if you know what I mean...
The ZeroDB track stands out for me, the rapping reminded me of Bahamadia on Sweetback's Au Natural while the guitar in the back is just awesome, like Benson playing some older school relaxed jazz tune (maybe it's Ronny Jordan), The Don Carlos track has the same voice sometimes, this one is also a bit mainstream (even ruined by an anti-speeding advertisement here in Australia)
Loved the "Sweet Harmony" track in the playlist, that really shows some depth of your musical knowledge, bit of a history here, interesting to drop it amongs trip-hop and lo-fi tracks. I liked this back then, it still sounds very much as a pop song, I might have used an instrumental or remix (none of which is easily accessible I guess, I have the CD Maxi and I don't think there are any other versions as I recall - too lazy to look at Discogs)
50:37 has some abrupt speed-up again - how do you do this? Sounds like you were mixing live with decks and you only used Ableton later for samples?
There is not too much beatmatching either which makes this just a mixtape or compilation.
Not bad as your first mix here, looking forward to the next one, you have a good ear and taste for quality lounge so I'm pretty sure you can improve both the tracklist with some less obvious tunes and show some beatmatching magic with Ableton - Warp'em Up, Them Tracks!
